Projects for private residences are about finding solutions in harmony with the inhabitants, their lifestyle and the desired atmosphere and activities at home. The spaces and their distribution will condition the activities and state of mind, just as the colours chosen, furniture selected, decoration and not to forget, the lighting. I always start with an interview and conversation about these points before even talking about aesthetics and style. Mood Boards are a useful tool I like to use to facilitate the dialogue and I tend to visit the home when physically possible. The project evolves along this informational and visual guidelines, taking into account the budget and timeframe.
In the photo gallery are a few examples of varied premises. The bathrooms I designed for renowned shoe designer Beverly Feldman is an expression of her motto. “Too much is not enough”... with gold leaf on the walls, tiles and sink made by hand, furniture and shutters made to order. She also wanted to include some items she had collected, a large painting, a carved wooden arch from India, and the red velvet lips sofa.
The majority of the projects are simpler and tend to focus on creating a specific atmosfere in each of the rooms, relaxing, inspiring, even humorous and surprising. I like incorporating organic shapes and “warm” materials, even incorporating tree trunks inside. The lighting is an extremely important part of the work in this context which I dedicate a good amount of time to, defining a lighting plan for the spaces with the clients.
I can not say enough about Anja, she is one of the most talented artists I have ever met. She is not only a designer, artist, creator, but also a builder. On top of that she is easy to get along with and has a quiet and professional personality. She has designed and built some amazing projects for me as you can see from the photos of Finca Belon.Working together has only been a pleasure and she brings to the table a feminine touch which is difficult to find in my area of Spain. Besides all that she is an incredible artist and when I asked her to paint my bathroom with butterflies on the ceiling it became my pride and joy of the house. Not to mention my queen size bed, fit for a queen that she built herself.I truly recommend Anja for any job that lets her creativity shine, whether it is one of her first flowered paper lamps or a request for a painting of a pig flying. She is amazing and a treasure as a person.
